The Aurora Handicap Marathon in Upper Hutt has staggered start times based on the estimated time of completion so everyone finishes at more or less the same time. There is a full marathon, 2x half marathon relay and 4x quarter marathon relay.
The course is a single lap 42.195 km loop, starting and ending at Silverstream School, Whitemans Rd, Silverstream. The course travels north through Upper Hutt and Akatarawa to Te Marua, returning via Mangaroa and Whitemans Valley.
Much of the course is through rural surroundings, generally flat, but with some undulations. Climbing gently for 38km, then 2km downhill, followed by a flat 2km to the finish.
