Over 1500 runners and walkers will take on the 12km challenge from Tauranga to Mount Maunganui this Sunday September 28th 2014 as part of the Mainfreight City to Surf Fun Run/Walk. Another 500 are expected to complete the shorter 5km Bay of Plenty Times Surf to Surf event.
With daylight savings starting on Sunday, this is a perfect event for people to kick start their summer fitness regime. The weather forecast is looking like a chance of rain on Sunday; we are hopeful that this will improve over the next few days.
"We encourage runners and walkers of all abilities and fitness levels to take on either the 12km or 5km challenge!" says Event Promotions Marketing Manager Charlotte Pearson. "Both courses are stunning, taking in the sites of the Harbour Bridge, Coronation Park, Pilot Bay and the Mauao Base Track. It will be a great way to spend the first Sunday morning of summer!"
The Corporate and Club Challenge is happening again this year to determine the fastest business and club in the Bay. "It is great to see the local businesses get behind this event, with 40 teams taking on the Corporate Challenge including defending champions from Body in Motion Physiotherapy." Other teams taking on the Corporate Challenge are from Hobec, Mitre 10 Mega, Young Read Woudberg, Trevelyans Pack & Cool and the Whakatane District Council. The Club Challenge will be a tussle between last year's winners, Rotorua Association of Triathletes and local club, Mount Joggers. The individual placings of each team member will be put together to see who will take out club bragging rights, and of course, the prized trophy.
Online entries are available at http://ift.tt/R6bFMT up until 9am Friday 26th September. On the day entries will be accepted at registration between 8.30 and 10.30am. Entry fees are just $35 for the 5km and $40 for the 12km, which includes a race bag full of edible goodies from sponsors, a 2 for 1 to the Mount Hot Pool, a bottle of Loaded Sports Drink on the finish line and a chance to win one of many spot prizes at prize-giving.
