The Rotorua Ekiden Relay is an annual team relay run on the roads encircling Lake Rotorua.
The Ekiden relay consists of 6 team members running a total of 42.2kms (the full marathon distance) but wearing a traditional Japanese tasuki sash instead of carrying a baton. The shortest leg of the race is 5km and the longest 9km.
