This week's newsletter on April 28th 2014 covers interesting articles, two date changes and two event updates. There have been no cancellations/postponements since last week's newsletter.

How does alcohol affect your athletic performance?

I'm not sure how accurate this article is, but it's worth a read and some food for thought, especially having a look through some of the comments people have left. I particularly liked this comment: "To an elite athlete working at the absolute margins there could be a nugget of truth in that (although I'd suggest even then it's still an exaggeration), but to most people reading this column it's utter bollocks." Read the article here at The Guardian's Running Blog.

Choose the right post race booze

While we're talking about alcohol, check out this infographic to help you figure out what to indulge in post race, and go against any advice in the other article :)

Staying connected through running

Geoff Roes at iRunFar talks about being connected to the land through running: "Growing up in rural upstate New York, I didn't realize until I was a young adult and moved away from home that very few people in this country live a life in which they consistently spend several hours a day outside." I personally love to run off road, which can be difficult when living in a city like Auckland, but I've managed to scout out some pretty good places near where I live. Check the article out here.

Candice Burt on clean eating and running

Candice starts by clarifying that "we all require a unique diet for training and racing and I don't want to come off like I know more than anyone else on this matter" and then goes on to talk about what she eats in her diet, finishing with some very yummy sounding recipes. Read more here.

7 keys to racing in costume

We've all seen people running in costume during events and some of you reading this will have run in costume. Scott Douglas at Runners World gives some tips for the rest of us who have yet to run in costume, including to keep an open mind, expect comments and (probably the most important) to try a practise run. Check the full list out here with some extra commentary.
